Our Year 6 class had a fantastic time exploring Lyme Valley Park as part of their Geography unit this afternoon!
During the visit, the children studied the Lyme Brook, learning how it acts as a main tributary feeding into the River Trent. They also explored the surrounding environment – discovering the different types of wildlife that call the area home and identifying a variety of trees that line the brook 🌳🍂.
Our final activity was to survey the public's view of the park and how they use it.
It was a brilliant hands-on learning experience that really brought their classroom work to life!

This morning in Geography, we used fieldwork to identify different examples of land use in our local area. We stopped at various points throughout the walk to discuss how the land was used and whether this has changed over time. In groups, we took photos and made notes on the various land uses. These included: residential, retail, industrial, religious building, charity, financial, open space or leisure.

On Thursday, our Year 5/6 football team had a fantastic time competing against other local schools at Newcastle College! ⚽️💙
We couldn’t be prouder of the team. They showed brilliant determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout every single match.
Through wins, draws and losses, they walked off the pitch with smiles on their faces and continued to support and encourage one another. 🌟

✝️ Year 6 Catholic Life Pledge ✝️
As part of our Catholic Life Pledge and following our RE lesson on our responsibility as stewards to take care of our planet, Year 6 spent time today caring for our school environment by taking part in a litter pick across our school playground and field.
The children showed great care, responsibility and respect for our shared environment and worked together brilliantly to make our school grounds cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.
This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to put their learning about stewardship into action, recognising our responsibility to care for God’s creation and the world around us. 🌍💚

🌟 Over the past few weeks, Year 6 had been busy creating wonderful memory boxes that reflect their school life! 🎨✨
Using mixed media, they thoughtfully designed their boxes to capture special moments and personal memories. Each child chose whether they wanted their piece to be abstract or more literal, giving them the freedom to express their unique perspective. The results are as creative and meaningful as the memories themselves! We couldn't wait to show our parents💭🖌️

This morning, our school community gathered at Holy Trinity to celebrate the end of an unforgettable journey for our Year 6 pupils. Together, we reflected on their time at St Mary’s, gave thanks for all they have achieved and prayed for them as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead.
Following Mass, we held our annual awards ceremony, where a number of children were recognised for the God-given talents, qualities and contributions they have shared during their time at St Mary’s. Congratulations to all of our award winners, who were presented with trophies in recognition of their achievements. 🏆✨

💦👾 Grossbusters! 👾💦
A huge congratulations to Year 6 for their unforgettable performances of Grossbusters yesterday! They performed three times to three different audiences and were absolutely fantastic every time. The show was hilarious, brilliantly acted and even left some of the audience a little bit soaked! 💦
We definitely have some future performers in our midst. We are so proud of every single child for their confidence, enthusiasm and incredible teamwork. What a way to end their time at St Mary’s! 🌟

Day 2 started with us watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and enjoying a couple of snacks that we bought from Lidl yesterday. We couldn’t wait to tuck into our ‘Maccies’ for lunch, which was followed by a short gaming session on Mr V’s Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to sample the rocky road we made, but we took it home to share with our families.
