Today, we were delighted to welcome parents into school to share in a beautiful Celebration of the Word with our Year 6 children. Together we reflected on the story of The Woman at the Well and its message of acceptance, forgiveness and new beginnings.
It was wonderful to come together in prayer and reflection as a school community. Thank you to all the parents who joined us and helped make the celebration so special.

This afternoon, our fantastic Year 6s completed their Music unit, “Songs of World War 2”, and what a journey it has been!
Throughout the unit, the children have been working hard to sing confidently together, learning to identify different pitches within an octave and exploring how harmonies work when voices are combined.
For their final performance, the children sang “White Cliffs of Dover”, beautifully accompanied by our very talented instrumentalists which was kindly written by Mrs Walton and rehearsed during their music tuition. It was wonderful to see the pupils supporting one another and performing with such confidence and musicality.
It was also lovely to see parents there to watch their children perform. Thank you for your continued support!

A big thank you to our wonderful Mental Health Practitioner, Lucy, who delivered a fantastic workshop with our Year 6 children today on managing difficult emotions. 💬
The session gave the children valuable strategies to help them recognise and cope with challenging feelings, supporting their wellbeing as they continue to grow and learn. We are very grateful for Lucy’s time, care and expertise in helping our pupils develop these important life skills. 💙💛

🌼 A Beautiful Act of Kindness 🌼
Scarlett, in Year 6, has decided to share daffodils with people around school to brighten their day and celebrate friendship. Such a simple, thoughtful gesture, yet it has brought so many smiles and moments of joy to our school community.
Through this kind act, Scarlett is truly living out our mission of “Learning to live out our calling with compassion and love.” By thinking of others and spreading happiness, she reminds us how powerful even the smallest acts of kindness can be.
We are so proud of the care and compassion shown by our pupils each day. Thank you, Scarlett, for bringing a little extra sunshine to St Mary’s. 🌼💛

🗣️✨ Speak Like an Expert at St Mary’s! ✨🗣️
This term, our pupils took part in a ‘Speak Like an Expert’ challenge, developing their disciplinary oracy across the curriculum. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of talk, vocabulary and confidence shown by the children! 🤩
Each year group became experts in a different field:
🎨 Year 1 – Artists
🏅 Year 2 – Sportspeople
🙏 Year 3 – Theologians
🔬 Year 4 – Scientists
📜 Year 5 – Historians
➗ Year 6 – Mathematicians
Children practised the four strands of oracy:
🧠 Cognitive – organising and explaining ideas
🗣️ Linguistic – using ambitious, subject-specific vocabulary
👥 Social & Emotional – listening and responding respectfully
🎤 Physical – speaking clearly and confidently
The discussions, explanations and expert vocabulary we heard across the school were incredible. We are so proud of how confidently our pupils can now speak like experts! 🌟

📚✨ World Book Day Storytime with Mr Wyse! ✨📚
Mr Wyse shared his top pick from the free World Book Day books with us in assembly today… Peppa Pig! 🐷📖
The whole school loved listening to his brilliant (and very enthusiastic!) rendition during assembly. There were plenty of smiles and giggles as everyone enjoyed the story together!
We hope you enjoy it almost as much as we did! 🎉📚

Year 5 and Year 6 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day 2026. The day began with exciting extracts from the World Book Day collection, followed by a live BBC lesson all about the joy of reading.
Before lunch, children explored the words they dressed up as, using dictionaries and thesauruses to find definitions, synonyms and antonyms.
In the afternoon, they took part in The Great Big World Book Day Footy and Booky Quiz 2026, shared their favourite books and discovered new stories.
To finish the day, children designed World Book Day tokens for a competition, created colourful bookmarks and received a book token to spend on a book of their choice.
It was a wonderful day celebrating stories, creativity and a love of reading! We can’t wait to see which of the stories you choose to spend your book token on! 📖✨
