🎭📚✨ National Poetry Day 2026 ✨📚🎭
This morning, we celebrated National Poetry Day with a fantastic whole-school assembly, and what a performance it was! 🌟
Each year group took to the stage to perform a poem they had been rehearsing during their Readers’ Theatre sessions. From wonderful expression and clear voices to brilliant actions and confident performances, our children absolutely brought the words to life! 🎤👏 Their fantastic oracy skills were on full display and we were so proud of every single performer. ❤️

🔢✨ Mastering Number in Year 2! ✨🔢
Today, Year 2 have been busy exploring all the different ways we can make 6 using our Rekenreks! 🧮
The children were challenged to make 6 across two rows in as many different ways as they could. They then had to convince their partner that they had definitely made 6, using the number bond facts we learnt from Numberblocks on Monday! 🗣️💭
We loved seeing some fantastic mathematical thinking, reasoning and explaining! 🌟👏

Year 2 RE Learning🌈
In our RE lesson, we explored the idea of making choices and turning back to God. We linked our learning to the story of Noah’s Ark, thinking carefully about the choices Noah had to make and what he may have said or felt.
Using our Oracy skills, the children acted out different scenarios and used stem sentences to help them think deeply about – What would Noah say? They shared their ideas, listened carefully to different perspectives and explained their thinking. We also explored how saying sorry, making good choices and turning back to God can help to repair and strengthen relationships.

This week, Year 2 used cubes and Base 10 equipment to compare two different numbers with their groups. We reinforced our previous learning about grouping into tens and ones, using practical resources to help us understand the value of each digit.
The children used Multi-Link cubes to build and compare numbers, helping them to clearly see the different groups of tens and ones. They enjoyed working collaboratively, explaining their thinking to their groups and using mathematical language to compare numbers. Who doesn’t love the opportunity to draw on a table? 📚

During this learning block, Year 2 have been exploring the Music unit 'Musical Storytelling: Instruments'. Throughout the unit, the children discovered how music can bring a story to life by using different instruments, tempos and dynamics to represent characters, events and emotions.
They learned to identify changes in tempo and dynamics, explaining how music matched different parts of a story, and made thoughtful musical choices to create mood and atmosphere.
To finish the unit, Year 2 worked together to rehearse and perform their own musical storytelling pieces, playing confidently with appropriate instrumental sounds, tempo and dynamics.

A huge thank you to our former pupil, Harry Hughes, for taking the time to visit our school and inspire our children. As a child, Harry was told he would never be able to kick a football because of his visual impairment. He proved just how wrong that prediction was by playing in the FA Disability Cup Final, live on TNT Sports, and helping his team become the first partially sighted team in history to win the quadruple. 🤩
Harry’s journey is a powerful reminder that determination and resilience can overcome incredible challenges, and he is a truly inspirational role model for our children.
