Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, â€˜Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Year 1 have had lots of fun practising and performing riddles this week. Our focus text was Jack and the Beanstalk and our riddles were inspired by the main characters and important parts of the story. We ensured that we used our oracy skills by speaking clearly, faced our audience and used a loud volume. #year1stm #englishstm

Well done too them all

What a great afternoon had by all and the rain kept away my very last sports day

Nursery have been celebrating their class saint, Saint Mary today. We have read bible stories and talked about Saint Mary, made a giant rosary, made blue icing biscuits, decorated Saint Mary with beautiful flower crowns and said a Hail Mary prayer.

Today we say goodbye to someone very special – our amazing caretaker Mr Cooper, who is retiring after years of hard work, kindness and dedication. You’ve been so much more than just a caretaker; you’ve been a constant support, a friendly face and someone who always went the extra mile. We’re going to miss you more than words can say, but we’re so happy for you as you head into this next chapter. Wishing you all the joy, rest and adventure that retirement has to offer! 💐👏

đŸŽ¶What an incredible celebration of creativity, music, and storytelling! Our talented Year 2 students brought the stage to life with their musical retellings of The Gingerbread Man and The Three Little Pigs — and what a show it was!
From well-choreographed instruments to confident narration, the children truly shined. They worked so hard to bring these classic tales to life, and their energy and enthusiasm were infectious. đŸ·đŸȘ✹
A huge thank you to our amazing staff for their incredible support, and to our families for your encouragement and cheers from the audience.
We are so proud of our little performers — what a wonderful way to end the term! đŸŒŸđŸ‘đŸŽ¶

đŸŽ¶A huge round of applause for our incredible Year 3 students who wowed us with a vibrant and joyful music performance celebrating Chinese New Year! 🎊
The children explored the magic of pentatonic scales through beautiful melodies and rhythmic pieces that captured the spirit and energy of the celebration.
And the highlight of the show? A live dragon weaving its way through the performance — brought to life by the children with dazzling colours, movement, and teamwork! It was a moment to remember and a perfect symbol of the festive spirit. đŸČ✹
A big thank you to our dedicated staff for inspiring such musical magic, and to our families for supporting the students and celebrating their hard work.đŸŽ¶

🌾 May Crowning 🌾

Thank you to all the children who took part in our May Crowning this morning. It was a truly special occasion, made even more meaningful by the presence of so many parents and parishioners.

It was a beautiful way to honour our patron saint and heavenly mother, Mary and to reflect on her example of faith, love, and humility. 💙🙏

O Mary, our Mother and Queen,
we crown you with love and devotion.
Guide us always to your Son, Jesus.

A reminder for our May Crowning tomorrow morning at 9:15am 🙏🌾 May Crowning Celebration – All Are Welcome 🌾

We are delighted to invite our school community to this year’s May Crowning, which will take place on Wednesday 21st May at 9:15am. This special celebration will be led by some of our wonderful Year 5 pupils.

The tradition of May Crowning is a cherished part of the Catholic faith, honouring Mary, the Mother of Jesus, during the month of May – a time traditionally dedicated to her. In this ceremony, we crown a statue of Mary with flowers, acknowledging her as Queen of Heaven and asking for her intercession and loving guidance.

đŸ‘Ș Parents, families and parishioners are warmly invited to join us for this prayerful occasion. Please arrive at the Stanier Street entrance, where a member of staff will be there to greet you.

Let us come together in faith and community to honour Mary, our school’s patron saint and ask for her blessings over all our children and families.

🙏 Prayer to Mary, Our Patron Saint
O Mary, Mother of God and our gentle Queen,
watch over our school and guide us each day.
Help us to follow your example of love, faith, and kindness.
Pray for us, protect us, and lead us closer to your Son, Jesus.
Amen.

We look forward to seeing you there! 💐

What we’re proud of…

Child painting with paintbrush

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”
– T&L Review
Child drawing with crayons

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
