Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

A massive thank you to all who came in their odd socks today for Anti-bullying Week this week – the theme for this year's campaign is to choose respect. Odd Socks Day is a day when we embrace other people's differences. Thank you to the Guardian Angels for their mini assembly on Monday telling us all about this important week. #catholiclifestm

Year 1 have had a fantastic day at the Brampton Museum learning about toys from the past and present. We went on an adventure to find Major Glad and Major Dizzy who were William’s tin soldiers. During our visit, the children experienced the toy gallery and the parlour where they were able to play with toys from the past and even made their own toy from the present. A fun day was had by all. #year1stm #historystm

Today, the children took part in a Remembrance Liturgy. We especially prayed for all those who have lost their lives in war and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The children also brought poppies in from home with the names of their deceased loved ones written on so we could also pray for them.

Congratulations to the winner of the RE “Season of Creation” homework, Ines in Year 3, who did a fantastic representation of the effects that not recycling has on our environment.

We were blown away by all of the entries and would love to do a showcase for parents and parishioners.

If you would like to come and view the fabulous homework projects submitted by the children please join us in the hall on Thursday 21st November from 3:30pm-4pm.

In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders' Fields.

What we’re proud of…

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
