Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

In our Celebration of God's Gifts Assembly, we launched our newly designed certificates and the children absolutely love them! This included our prestigious Pen Licences that the children went wild for.

It’s been fantastic to see how proud and excited they are to earn and receive them. A lovely way to celebrate effort, progress and achievement across the school.
Well done to all of this week's winners!

🌟 Maths Journals 🟰 ➗ ➖ ➕

Mrs Ravenscroft has been looking through our maths journals and has been really pleased with the way we’ve been representing our mathematical concepts and ideas.

It’s been lovely to see children using clear models, diagrams and explanations to show their thinking and deepen their understanding. Keep up the fantastic work – we’re so proud of the effort going into maths across the class!

Back in December, Year 2 used their oracy skills to act out scenes from Toby and The Great Fire of London. They worked in small groups to role play different events and discussed new vocabulary like chronological, ensuring the scenes were acted out in the correct order. #year2stm #historystm

Year 3 have been practising their singing in music lessons by learning a Viking song. They have been learning to sing in groups, perform their own actions and to project their voices with feeling and we think they’re doing a brilliant job so far! #year3stm #stmmusic

What we’re proud of…

Child painting with paintbrush

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
