Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Such a lovely idea and creates a memory too

Last night, our dance club rocked the stage at Crewe’s Gotta Dance event! 💖 They channelled their inner Barbies, each picking their favorite from the film. A huge thank you to our amazing PTFA for funding the fabulous costumes! 🌟 The energy and enthusiasm they brought was truly unforgettable. We are beyond proud of our dancers – well done, team! 💃🏽✨ #DanceClub #BarbieVibes #GottaDanceCrewe #dancestm #pestm #ptfastm

A huge thanks to Mr Bridgewater for coming to visit Year 5 this afternoon. As part of our Lent unit, Mr Bridgewater spoke in detail about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and explained how it is a celebration of God’s forgiveness. The children asked some wonderful questions and also discussed how they can truly show they are sorry through their actions. #restm #year5stm

Excellent ! A Fantastic thing for .Mr Bridgewater to do.xx

Fun in the sun! Year 1 had a wonderful time yesterday. We took our RE learning outdoors to explore the meaning of a quote from the Bible – (Matthew 18:14 “Let the little children come to me.“ The children reflected on why they are special to Jesus and how He always welcomes them. #year1stm #restm

It looked amazing in the sunshine 😊

Zoom to the moon! This week, Year 1 have been working like historians by learning about the famous explorer Neil Armstong. To start, we learned about his early life which led to his career as an astronaut. Our main focus for lesson was the moon landing and we used video sources to learn more. We wanted to experience was it was like for ourselves, so we re-enacted the launch, time in space and the moon landing. We were fascinated with his discoveries and couldn’t believe that they have contributed to technology today.

We have enjoyed working like scientists in Year 1. Over the last few of weeks, we have been making predictions and testing materials for waterproofing and carrying out experiments to discover which objects float and sink. The children used stem sentences to help them to understand and use scientific vocabulary. #year1stm #sciencestm

Thank you to our wonderful Year 1 parents who attended our Year 1 Art Gallery today. The children enjoyed sharing their art work and explaining the skills and techniques they have learned in creating their masterpieces. They spoke clearly and confidently, using subject specific vocabulary about their favourite piece of work. Our parents enjoyed having a go at an observational drawing and left the following feedback about their experience.
“I really enjoyed seeing the art work produced by the children. The methods explained can be taken home so that we can continue to work on and encourage the children’s growth and understanding.“
“The children’s art books are very informative, the girls love art and they both explained the meaning of how they do and understand Art and how the artist thinks.“ #year1stm #artstm #oracystm

Very informative liking these classes thank you how schooling has changed since my daughter went ….

✨📚A huge thank you to Staffordshire Libraries for welcoming our Year 6 children this afternoon! They had a brilliant time catching up with Terry and sharing their current favourite books.

Next, they were captivated by an excerpt, read by Terry and a little help from Mrs Ravenscroft, from "The Funny Life of Teachers" and had a good laugh learning about the mysteries of the staffroom!

Terry's wonderful performance of the poem "Sick" had everyone entertained and the children proudly recited their rendition of "A Cautionary Verse" from World Poetry Day.

To top it all off, they explored the bookshelves and chose books to take home and enjoy. What a fantastic visit! Thank you so much, Terry! 📚✨ #readingstm #englishstm #year6stm

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”
– T&L Review
Child drawing with crayons

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
