At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, â€˜Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Today we celebrate the joyful news of Christmas Day: Jesus is born. God chose to come into the world as a baby, bringing love, peace and hope to everyone. The light of Christ shines in the darkness and reminds us that we are never alone.

In this Jubilee Year of Hope, Christmas invites us to notice hope in simple and loving moments – in family, friendship and care for one another. Just as the shepherds and wise men shared the good news, we are called to share the joy of Jesus through kindness, generosity and love.

Loving God,
thank you for the gift of Jesus,
born in a stable,
bringing light and hope to the world.
Fill our hearts with joy this Christmas Day
and help us to welcome Jesus with love.
Teach us to share his peace and kindness
with everyone we meet.
May the light of Christ
shine in our homes, our school and our world,
and may we be people of hope
today and always.
Amen.

✝ Fourth week of Advent ✝

This week we light the fourth Advent candle, the candle of love. It reminds us of Mary, who said yes to God with a loving and trusting heart. Even when she felt unsure, Mary chose hope and believed that God was with her.
As we celebrate this Jubilee Year of Hope, we remember that hope grows when we love others. During this final week of Advent, we prepare for Jesus by choosing love in the little things – kind words, helping hands and caring actions. When we do this, we share God’s love and bring hope to our world.

Loving God,
as we light the candle of love,
we thank you for Mary
and her trusting yes to you.
Help us to wait with hopeful hearts
as we prepare for the birth of Jesus.
Teach us to show love through our words and actions,
especially to those who need kindness and care.
May we be signs of hope in our school,
our families and our world.
We ask this through Jesus,
the light of the world.
Amen.

For our Catholic Life Pledge this half term, Year 5 wanted to bring some Christmas cheer to those that may find this time of year particularly difficult. After learning about The Good Samaritan, we wanted to put our faith into action and live out the message of The Good Samaritan which is love thy neighbour. So, Year 5 made their own Christmas cards and delivered them in the local area to spread the message of faith. We hope our school neighbours love their cards! #year5stm #catholiclifepledgestm #catholiclifestm #restm

What we’re proud of…

Child painting with paintbrush

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”
– T&L Review
Child drawing with crayons

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
