Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

✝️Easter Sunday Reflection✝️

Easter Sunday reflects on the resurrection of Jesus, offering Christians hope, joy, and a new commitment to living as disciples of the Risen Lord. It's a time to celebrate the victory over sin and death, and to consider how this event impacts our lives, encourages us to be people of hope, and calls us to share this hope with others.

Easter Sunday is a joyful celebration of Christ's resurrection, a powerful symbol of hope and new life. The resurrection of Jesus offers hope in the face of difficulties and the promise of eternal life for believers. Easter Sunday reminds us to live as disciples of the Risen Lord, witnessing to His love and truth in the world.
We are called to share the hope of Jesus' resurrection with others, especially those who are facing suffering or loneliness. Easter joy is meant to transform us, renewing our commitment to living a life of love, service, and hope. Easter Sunday encourages us to reflect on how the resurrection impacts our personal lives, our relationships, and our faith journey. The resurrection reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always hope because Jesus is alive. We are called to live in the light of the resurrection, reflecting its joy, peace, and hope in our daily lives. Easter is not just about the forgiveness of sins, but also about the eternal glorification of every soul who dies and rises with Christ.

Heavenly Father, we give you all the glory and all the honour for this time in remembering your son Jesus. Thank you that he is the lamb that was slain for the world. We thank you that through your act of kindness, we are able to share in your love.
Amen.

Wishing a very happy and holy Easter to all our children, families and parishioners!

✝️ Good Friday Reflection ✝️

Good Friday is a time to reflect on Jesus's sacrifice and the love He showed for us all. It's a day to remember that even though Jesus suffered and died, He loved us enough to take our sins away and offer us eternal life.

Jesus’ death on the cross is a testament to God’s love as Jesus died to forgive our sins. This year as pilgrims of hope, we give thanks for the hope in eternal life and the joy of being reunited with Jesus in heaven.

Jesus’ love can help us to overcome challenges and His forgiveness can help us to make amends when we have sinned.

Dear Jesus,
You loved us so much that you gave up your life for us. Help us to give our love to others. We know that if we are kind to those around us, then we are being kind to you. Today, we take with us our cross to remind us of children in need around the world.
Amen

✝️ Maundy Thursday Reflection ✝️

Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a meal with his disciples and taught them to love one another. It's also a time to remember Jesus' humility and service, demonstrated by his washing of the disciples' feet. Jesus showed his friends how to be humble and serve others by washing their feet. We can learn from this by helping our friends and family.

The words of Jesus about the bread and his body being broken and the drink and the blood he shed gave the people in the Upper Room (and us) the opportunity to remember always how much Jesus gave himself for each of them and all of us.

On Maundy Thursday, we think about the meal Jesus shared and how much he loved us. We can remember him by loving each other and serving others.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus, despite his fear and distress, chose to obey God's will, offering a powerful example of trust and surrender. Let us always follow Jesus’ example of letting God’s will be done.

Dear Lord,
On this Holy Thursday, let us give thanks for the gift of Holy Communion. We thank you that you are with us in such a special way when we go to Mass. Help us to be good disciples, by loving, giving, serving and forgiving as you did.
Amen

✝️Palm Sunday Reflection✝️

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week: the most important week in our liturgical year.

On Palm Sunday, we remember when Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem and the crowds celebrated by waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna!”

Palm Sunday reminds us of Jesus’ humility and the joy of His arrival, even though it foreshadowed his sacrifice.

By reflecting on the story of Palm Sunday and its meaning, we can understand Jesus' love and learn how to welcome him into our lives and show love to others.

Jesus, thank you that you came to die for our sins. As we celebrate Palm Sunday, help us to remember that your sacrifice is for each one of us, and—though we may be small—we are important to you. Help us to see past appearances and love each person the way you do. Amen

So inspiring

✝️The Stations of the Cross✝️

Thank you to all parents and parishioners who joined us for our Stations of the Cross Assembly. Year 6’s performance was a reflective depiction of Jesus’ last days on earth and a reminder of the torture that Jesus suffered to save us from our sins… “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they’ve done…” Luke 23:34.

Their performance received high praise from parents and parishioners alike:
‘I have been to station every week during Lent but this was the most moving experience. The children were so reverent.’
‘Thank you for teaching our kids the way of the Lord, forgiveness and compassion.’
‘It brought tears to my eyes.’
‘What a wonderful, powerful and emotional performance!!’

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”
– T&L Review
Child drawing with crayons

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced.
