At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Today, Year 4 learned about the different types of teeth – incisors, canines and molars – and how they help us to bite, tear and chew our food. We then explored how to keep our teeth healthy before carrying out an exciting experiment using boiled eggs to represent tooth enamel. The eggs were placed in different liquids, including Coca-Cola and coffee, to investigate how these drinks can affect our teeth over time. We can’t wait to see the results next week! 🔬🦷 #year4stm #sciencestm

🌑 Year 5 & 6 Take Part in Black Out Day! 🌑
Today, our Year 5 and 6 students took part in Black Out Day, a special event where they put all technology aside – no iPads, no interactive boards and no digital devices of any kind! The purpose of the day was to give our children a chance to experience learning and creativity without relying on screens, encouraging collaboration, imagination, and hands-on problem solving.
It was wonderful to see the children engaging in activities, working together, and having fun in new ways. By the end of the day, many of the students said that they hadn’t missed the technology at all and had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A big well done to all our Year 5 and 6 learners for embracing the challenge! 👏

🎁🌍 World Give 🌍🎁

Today, a group of our pupils had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside World Give, a charity that provides gift boxes filled with essential items and special treats for children in communities around the world who may not have access to the things many of us take for granted.

The children helped to sort, fill and pack the boxes, knowing that their efforts will bring joy, hope and practical support to other children. They also took part in the filming of a promotional video for the charity alongside local presenter Louise Stones, helping to spread awareness of the incredible work that World Give does.

As a thank you for giving up their time, the charity kindly provided a breakfast club and lots of treats for the children, making the experience even more memorable.

We are incredibly proud of the compassion, generosity and enthusiasm shown by our pupils. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and truly lived out our mission of serving others with love and kindness.

This is just the beginning of our partnership with World Give. In September, we will be launching a whole-school RE homework project and challenging our school community to see how many gift boxes we can fill together. We can’t wait to get involved and make a difference to the lives of children around the world.

Keep an eye out for the finished promotional video, which will be released soon and features some of our wonderful pupils helping to support this fantastic cause!

Thank you to all the families that attended our Year 1 Celebration of the Word and story time. The children loved having you there to share this lovely experience.
Some of parents commented ‘ Thank you for this afternoon. It was a lovely time to hear the children be a part of the celebration of the word and listening to the song.’ And ‘ Thank you for this lovely experience and teaching children how to be kind and grateful through the story of The Rainbow Fish.’

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
