Headteacher

At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Some of our Catholic Life Leaders had the honour of attending a beautiful Stations of the Cross service at St Wulstan’s Church, led by pupils from St John Fisher Catholic College.

The SJFCC pupils thoughtfully re-enacted each Station of the Cross, helping us to reflect on the Passion of Christ and the sacrifices Jesus made for us. Their readings were particularly powerful, encouraging us to think about how the messages of each station still apply to our lives today, both as adults and as children.

The service was incredibly moving and prayerful. The singing was led by the SJFCC pupils and it was wonderful for everyone to join together in song. Several pupils also sang solos beautifully, which added to the reverent atmosphere.

We are very grateful to have been invited to take part in such a thoughtful and inspiring service. Our Catholic Life Leaders represented our school wonderfully and it was a privilege for them to share in this special time of reflection during Lent.

In our Celebration of God’s Gifts assembly, we were delighted to celebrate some wonderful achievements. Leon was recognised for an incredible 3,000,000 words read on Accelerated Reader – a fantastic milestone and a real testament to his love of reading.

We also celebrated Isabel, Jewelmary and Raiha, who were awarded an amazing Young Writers certificate for their published work.

We are so proud of you all! 📚✍️✨

Today, in our Celebration of God’s Gifts assembly, Mrs Whitfield found herself in a wonderful dilemma. She simply couldn’t choose just one child for the coveted Oracy Certificate in St Peter, because every single pupil has been sensational this week. In the end, the only solution was to give a certificate to everyone!

The use of Oracy stem sentences, confident actions and enthusiastic participation in lessons has been incredible. The children have truly blown her socks off.

Keep up the fantastic work, St Peter. We are so proud of you! 👏✨ #year6stm #oracystm

After working like geographers and using atlases to identify countries around the world in today’s Geography lesson, Year 4 took inspiration from these places for their PE lesson. We had a go at traditional games from different countries such as Daruma-san ga Koronda from Japan, Catching the Dragon’s Tail from China and El Gato y El Ratón from Spain. It was amazing to see everyone exploring different cultures while staying active! #geographystm #pestm #year4stm

Last term, our Dance club had the amazing opportunity to perform their dance “Around the World” at the Regent Theatre and Victoria Hall, Dance 026 show. 🌍✨

Here is our final video, beautifully filmed by a.p photography. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed performing it!

A huge thank you to The Marilyn Jones Dance Centre for kindly lending us lots of jazz shoes for the performance. 👏💃

What we’re proud of…

Oracy

“The school has created an oracy rich environment, where voices are valued and listened to. Pupils are provided with significant opportunities to develop their oracy skills in every subject and in every lesson.”

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

Curriculum

“The school’s aims are clear. They are committed to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum, that is broad and balanced. The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
