At St Mary’s, we cater for children from the age of 3-11, Catholic and Non-Catholic. The vast majority of our children move on to St John Fisher Catholic Collegiate, the secondary school within our Multi Academy Company (family of schools). We work closely with them to ease the transition from primary to secondary education for our learners.

We are very proud of the strong support which we receive from our parish priest, Canon Paul, and assistant priest Fr John. All staff and children are very well supported in deepening their understanding of the gospel values, which lie at the heart of everything we do and is included in our school mission statement, ‘Learning to Live Out Our Calling with Compassion and Love.’ Our children are expected to live out their faith and are well equipped to do so as our Catholic Values permeate throughout the life of our school.

As an inclusive school, we have high expectations of all children. We instill our pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils. Our children experience a carefully designed, broad and balanced curriculum and we have ensured that our school has the facilities and resources to provide our children with opportunities to discover their talents and interests. We have a strong tradition in music and sports and we take great delight in developing our children’s achievements in these areas.

Our teaching staff view their work as a vocation and actively seek to motivate and inspire our children to hold a life long love of learning. Our school works to enable everyone to become a responsible, happy and compassionate citizen in order to prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities in our rapidly changing society. We believe that to achieve this for our children, it is crucial for parents, carers and the school to work together in partnership. There are many opportunities throughout the school year to develop this relationship. We have a committed pastoral team who are knowledgeable and resourceful in providing support for all families within school and beyond the school gates. We look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your child’s full potential. If you have not yet visited our school and would like to come and meet us, please contact the school office to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

We wanted to share this informative poster with our community to help explain what is often referred to as “the manosphere” – a collection of online spaces and content that can influence how some boys and young men view relationships, masculinity and women.

As both educators and parents, we all play an important role in guiding children as they grow and develop their understanding of the world. With so much content easily accessible online, it’s more important than ever that we support our boys in building respectful, healthy attitudes and strong critical thinking skills.

We encourage you to take a moment to read through the poster and use it as a starting point for conversations at home. Working together, we can help ensure all our children grow up with a balanced, respectful outlook and the confidence to question the content that they see online.

🙏 Family Mass 🙏

This evening some of our children and families joined together at Holy Trinity for Family Mass and we were so proud of the wonderful way the children took part. They did a fantastic job altar serving, reading and bringing up the offertory gifts, helping to make the Mass really special for everyone there.

It was lovely to see so many of our school families there and many parishioners came to speak to the children afterwards to tell them how well they had read and how beautifully they represented the school. We were very proud of them all.

Thank you to Canon Paul and Holy Trinity Catholic Church Newcastle for always making our families feel so welcome and to everyone who came to support. Moments like this really show the strength of our school and parish community together.

🙏 Family Mass

🎶On Tuesday this week, we were delighted to welcome some of our talented pupils to perform in assembly as part of their iRock music tuition! 🎸🎤
The children performed confidently in front of the whole school and their parents, showcasing the incredible progress they have made since their last concert. It was truly wonderful to see how much they have grown in both skill and confidence.
It was amazing to see them shine in the spotlight — we are so proud of each and every one of them!🎶

Our fantastic Year 5 class have successfully completed their DT unit in style! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳
The children showed great teamwork and growing independence as they carefully chopped carrots, mushrooms and bacon before combining them with mince, chopped tomatoes, mixed herbs and beef stock to create a delicious bolognese. 🍝
As part of the process, we also explored important food safety skills – discussing how to avoid cross contamination when preparing ingredients and learning how to use knives safely and correctly while chopping.
We are so proud of their effort, enthusiasm, and the skills they’ve developed along the way – the classroom smelled amazing too!

The Big Lent Walk 2026 👣✝

Today our whole school community came together for the Big Lent Walk. As a school family, we walked reflecting on those in need, particularly those living in poverty, remembering the Catholic Social Teaching principle of solidarity and our call to stand alongside our brothers and sisters around the world.

This year the Big Lent Walk is helping CAFOD raise money for the floating gardens in Bangladesh, which support families whose homes and land are affected by flooding. Through our walking, prayer and generosity, we are helping to make a real difference.

Thank you to all of our families for your kindness and support in sponsoring the children. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Please remember that any remaining sponsorship money should be handed into the school office by Monday.

Well done everyone — we are very proud of our St Mary’s community.

Music

“Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard. Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.” – OFSTED

Sports

Achieving the gold mark for Physical Education since 2018!
“The primary physical education and sport premium is spent very well. Pupils have benefited from access to a wide variety of after-school clubs, competitive events and special activities. As a result, increasingly more pupils participate in a wider range of sports” – OFSTED

The curriculum sequence is coherent and clear cross curricular links are made. Such links are further strengthened by the school’s additional ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum”
