To celebrate Black History Month, our children have been inspired by black artists to create their very own masterpieces.
Year 1 created handprint doves as a symbol of peace and as a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
Year 2 created freedom quilts in the style of Gee’s Bend .
Year 3 focused on portraits of the iconic singer Whitney Houston.
Year 4 produced abstract art in the style of Michael Basquait.
Year 5’s artwork was influenced by Alma Thomas’ vibrant abstract paintings.
And Year 6 created silhouettes inspired by Kara Walker .

This week, Year 3 used a range of sketching skills to do some observational drawing of pieces of fruit. They focused on detail and shading to capture the details during their art lesson. We were so impressed! #year3stm #artstm … See MoreSee Less

During Year 6’s field trip to Lyme Valley 🌿, the children captured photographs of the fascinating wildlife 🐦🦋 they encountered, as well as the tributary that feeds into our nearest river – the River Trent. Once they had collected their shots, they created their own Pic Collages 🎨🖼️, ready to analyse in next week’s geography lesson 🧐. Check out their amazing photos! #geographystm #artstm #computingstm #year6stm … See MoreSee Less
