🌟 Celebrating Our Young Speakers 🌟
We were absolutely delighted to receive letters from Adam Jogee for Newcastle-under-Lyme congratulating our Speech Fest finalists and winners following this year's competition. What an incredible honour for our children to have their hard work, courage and powerful speaking recognised in this way.
To receive personal praise from a Member of Parliament is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the confidence, passion and dedication our pupils demonstrated when sharing their speeches. Their voices were heard, valued and celebrated far beyond the walls of the competition itself.
We are so proud of all 14 finalists who represented St Mary's with such maturity, confidence and enthusiasm. You are a credit to our school and an inspiration to others. 💙
Thank you once again to Adam Jogee for taking the time to recognise our pupils and celebrate the importance of young people finding and using their voice.

Thank you to Maria and Joanna (from 4V) for leading such a beautiful Celebration of the Word last week.
The girls did a wonderful job sharing such an important message about putting our faith in God as they prepare to transition into Year 5. It reminded us that no worry is too big or too small for God.
Thank you to all the parents who came along to support and share in this special moment with the children. #year4stm #prayerandliturgystm … See MoreSee Less

Today, Year 4 learned about the different types of teeth – incisors, canines and molars – and how they help us to bite, tear and chew our food. We then explored how to keep our teeth healthy before carrying out an exciting experiment using boiled eggs to represent tooth enamel. The eggs were placed in different liquids, including Coca-Cola and coffee, to investigate how these drinks can affect our teeth over time. We can’t wait to see the results next week! 🔬🦷 #year4stm #sciencestm … See MoreSee Less

📖 Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for Storytime in Year 4. As part of our focus on the Year of Reading, we enjoyed reading the first chapter of Beowulf together. The children were engaged and enthusiastic as they were introduced to this exciting tale and we look forward to exploring the story further in the coming weeks. 🧌 #readingstm #readingforpleasurestm #parentsstm #year4stm … See MoreSee Less

🎤 St Mary's Speech Fest 2026 🎤
What an incredible day of speaking, listening and inspiring others!
Today, our annual Speech Fest final took place at Staffordshire Libraries, showcasing the outstanding oracy skills of our pupils. After an impressive 180 children auditioned, just 14 finalists earned the opportunity to take to the stage and share speeches on topics close to their hearts.
We were delighted to welcome an esteemed judging panel:
⭐️ Adam Jogee for Newcastle-under-Lyme MP
⭐️ Mr Murray, Headteacher of St John Fisher Catholic College
⭐️ Justine Lomas, St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Multi-Academy Trust School Transformation Partner
⭐️ Sue Griggs, Voice 21 School Relationship Lead
Our finalists spoke with confidence, conviction and enthusiasm, making the judges' task exceptionally difficult. Each speech reflected the hard work, courage and passion of the children involved.
A huge congratulations to our Speech Fest winners:
🥉 Raiha – Swimming 🏊♀️
🥈 Trishelle – The Life of an Immigrant 🌍
🥇 Leon – Reading and Writing 📚
We would also like to thank Darius and Lilly, two former St Mary's pupils, who did a fantastic job as our compères and helped the event run so smoothly. 🎤 Thank you to St John Fisher Catholic College and Newcastle-under-Lyme School for allowing them both to attend.
A special thank you goes to Staffordshire Libraries for hosting us and providing such a wonderful setting for the occasion. 📚
Speech Fest was a fantastic celebration of pupil voice and a reminder of the importance of giving every child the confidence and opportunity to express their ideas. We are incredibly proud of every finalist who stepped onto the stage today and shared their voice with such courage and skill.
