📚LKS2 – World Book Day 2026📚

Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic time celebrating world book day! We begun our day with a fantastic assembly listening to our teachers read some of the FREE books we can get with our tokens! We also enjoyed exploring the rich vocabulary we had all dressed as and their meanings. We even invented our own silly stories created with these words. Of course, we had the opportunity to talk about our favourite books and make lots of reccomendations!

🗣️✨ Speak Like an Expert at St Mary’s! ✨🗣️

This term, our pupils took part in a ‘Speak Like an Expert’ challenge, developing their disciplinary oracy across the curriculum. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of talk, vocabulary and confidence shown by the children! 🤩

Each year group became experts in a different field:
🎨 Year 1 – Artists
🏅 Year 2 – Sportspeople
🙏 Year 3 – Theologians
🔬 Year 4 – Scientists
📜 Year 5 – Historians
➗ Year 6 – Mathematicians

Children practised the four strands of oracy:
🧠 Cognitive – organising and explaining ideas
🗣️ Linguistic – using ambitious, subject-specific vocabulary
👥 Social & Emotional – listening and responding respectfully
🎤 Physical – speaking clearly and confidently

The discussions, explanations and expert vocabulary we heard across the school were incredible. We are so proud of how confidently our pupils can now speak like experts! 🌟

Today, Year 4 brought Science and PE together with a game of ‘Solid or Liquid.’ After learning how to identify and define solids, liquids and pourable solids in the classroom, the children headed out to the playground to put their knowledge into action. When the teacher called out either solid or liquid, they had to think quickly and run to the correct base. It was a great way to reinforce their understanding while keeping active and having plenty of fun along the way. #year4stm #sciencestm #pestm See MoreSee Less

Today, Year 4 brought the story of the Ten Plagues of Egypt to life! 🌊🔥🐸

After learning about what the plagues revealed about God’s power and His promise to His people, the children tackled the question:

“Should Pharaoh keep the Israelites in Egypt, or should Moses lead them to freedom?”

The children delivered a brilliant, thoughtful debate using their oracy skills to explain their viewpoints!

Enjoy watching a snippet of our debate below!! 🌟

To celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week, Year 4 took time to reflect on things that make them truly happy. After lots of discussion, it also helped us realise that we all may look different, act different and have different interests but that we all have a special place in the world. 🫶🏼💙 #year4stm #thisismyplace #childrensmentalhealthweek2026 See MoreSee Less
