What OFSTED said..
” Music is taught very effectively as pupils learn to play instruments and sing to a good standard.”
“Music and singing play a large part in the school’s life. Pupils participate enthusiastically in making music and singing in special events at the school and in the local community. Pupils sing in tune and in harmony using three parts with good tonal quality.”

At St. Mary’s we have a dedicated Music Room for instrumental lessons.
We also run music clubs after school including choir, guitar club
Our children work towards performing both in school and outside of school as we have good links with local high schools, churches and the Town Centre and are so proud of our Music Gold Mark.

Yesterday, our fantastic Year 3s completed their Music unit, “Developing Singing Technique”, and what a journey it has been!
Throughout the unit, the children have been working hard to sing in time with others, developing their confidence and teamwork skills. They have also needed to recognise and use simple rhythmic notation to help them compose and perform their very own Viking song!
We are so proud of how they’ve grown as performers – showing great focus, enthusiasm and creativity. 🛡️🎵
Please take a moment to enjoy their wonderful singing and celebrate their achievements with us! 👏🎥
It was also lovely to see so many parents there to watch their children perform. Thank you for your continued support.

During this learning block, Year 1 have been exploring the Music unit ‘Sound Patterns’. Throughout this unit, the children experimented with creating different sounds using a single instrument. They explored how to change the way an instrument sounds by tapping, shaking, scraping and striking in different ways, discovering just how many possibilities one instrument can have!
They also learned how to read and play simple rhythmic patterns, including beats and rests.
To finish the unit, the children used their new musical skills to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs. Through rhythm and sound effects, they brought the story to life – from the building of the houses to the big bad wolf’s huffing and puffing! 🐷🐺
We are so proud of their creativity, focus and enthusiasm in Music this term. Well done, Year 1! Here is a snippet of your excellent work!🌟🎵

In tandem with their history unit, World War II, Year 6 have been learning about wartime songs in music! They have been exploring how music boosted morale and how songs from WWI and WWII can be compared and contrasted. Today, they performed The White Cliffs of Dover by Vera Lynn and sang it beautifully. We are so proud of them! 🏰🎖️📜🎶✨ #year6stm #musicstm #historystm … See MoreSee Less
