To celebrate Black History Month, our children have been inspired by black artists to create their very own masterpieces.
Year 1 created handprint doves as a symbol of peace and as a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
Year 2 created freedom quilts in the style of Gee’s Bend .
Year 3 focused on portraits of the iconic singer Whitney Houston.
Year 4 produced abstract art in the style of Michael Basquait.
Year 5’s artwork was influenced by Alma Thomas’ vibrant abstract paintings.
And Year 6 created silhouettes inspired by Kara Walker .

Our children have been celebrating Black History Month by learning about inspirational Black children who have made a difference in the world.
Each year group has focused on a different person, exploring their stories, achievements and impact:
Year 1 – Robby Novak (the “Kid President”) – inspiring us to be kind and make the world awesome!
Year 2 – Floella Benjamin – learning about her journey to Britain and her work inspiring children everywhere.
Year 3 – Mari Copeny – discovering how “Little Miss Flint” used her voice to fight for clean water and justice.
Year 4 – Kylian Mbappé – celebrating his talent, determination and positive role as a global sports star.
Year 5 – Marley Dias – exploring her campaign #1000BlackGirlBooks and the importance of representation in reading.
Year 6 – Amika George – learning about her fight for period equality through the Free Periods campaign.
Our pupils have reflected on how these individuals show courage, determination and compassion – values that help shape a better future for everyone.
