Competition- If you were an engineer what would you do?
This year the children at St Mary’s entered the Leaders awards competition, ‘If you were an engineer what would you do?’. The children designed solutions to every day problems and world wide issues including: reusable shopping bags that never rip, machines to clean up the oceans, dissolving packaging and a drone to deliver food to the people of Ukraine.
We were delighted to be invited to an awards ceremony and exhibition at Coventry University to celebrate Aysia-Marie’s achievement in being one of the year 2 winners for the west central region.
Well done to everybody who took part!
Year 5 have been designing and creating pop-up books in their most recent DT unit. To finish the unit, they paid a visit to Year 1 so that they could put their creations to the test. After, they used their Oracy skills to gather feedback from the Year 1 children which allowed the Year 5 children to evaluate their finished book. #dtstm #year5stm #oracystm … See MoreSee Less

In their Autumn 2 DT unit, Year 3 designed, created and evaluated these fantastic electricity posters based on their History topic – 'The Stone Age'.
We then presented an 'expert talk' to the other class all about their design and thought about how we could improve them. Some examples of this were making them more historically accurate and thinking carefully about how to place the slot for the bulb more accurately. #year3stm #dtstm #oracystm … See MoreSee Less

Congratulations to Nicole and Thomas in St Peter and Dotty and Ethan in St Rita who won our DT competition. The children had to design their own steady hand games that were judged by the Year 5/6 team. Theirs were selected due to hitting the specific criteria required. Well done!!

During today’s DT lesson, Year 1 visited the food technology room to make their smoothies. They tasted and evaluated before asking members of staff to try them. The children asked questions they had devised to help them to gain an understanding of their product which identified fruits used, taste and recommendations for how the smoothies could be improved. They used their discussion guidelines and talk tactics to clarify, build upon and explain how we could improve our smoothies if they made them again. #year1stm #oracystm #dtstm … See MoreSee Less

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the PTFA Christmas Market this evening.🌲🎅🌟
It was great to see such a variety of children's produce on sale. From little gonks to reindeer food – there were Christmas treats for everyone! The children had so much fun designing, creating and marketing their products in the run-up to the event.
Thank you also to our amazing staff at St Mary's who made the market possible. Your creativity and dedication knows no bounds!

It was a lovely evening , well done to you all at St Mary’s.
This half-term, Year 6 have been designing and making their own steady hand games. They have had to select useful components to create a series circuit which would emit sound when the wire was touched. They loved every minute of it!
