At St. Mary’s, we strive to create an oracy-rich community, where we ensure that all children feel that their voices are valued and listened to. The children are taught to use their voice confidently to: reason, negotiate, present and explore ideas to support their learning across the curriculum and to prepare them for later life.
When the children returned to school after half term, we participated in an oracy day. This consisted of a range of activities in which the children could develop their oral and aural skills.
Watch below to see some of the activities we participated in.
Speaking and Listening – From Early Years to Year 6
Voice 21 Oracy Framework

In today’s English lesson, Year 5 performed the ‘Duel at the Plaza’ scene from Romeo and Juliet. With passion, confidence and some seriously impressive acting skills, they brought the streets of Verona to life on our field. From fierce duels to dramatic monologues, every moment was captivating. A huge well done to all of the budding actors!

A huge thank you to St John Fisher Catholic College for visiting our Year 5 class yesterday afternoon for a Jubilee Retreat. The children had a wonderful time exploring the theme of pilgrimage by working in groups to reflect on what it means to be a pilgrim in today’s world. They also took part in a meaningful discussion about how each of us can make the world a better place, one kind and thoughtful action at a time. Thank you again for helping us grow in faith and community. #restm #oracystm … See MoreSee Less

Sounds like a brilliant day 😊
In RE this week, Year 1 used their oracy skills to act out the story of the Last Supper. We discussed the key moments of the story and how we should portray them when acting it out. #year1stm #restm #oracystm … See MoreSee Less
