πŸ“š Today, Year 6 proudly took part in their Catholic Life Pledge, focusing on restocking the Woodland Library by exploring Newcastle’s many charity shops! This thoughtful initiative not only helped support local charities but also promoted sustainability as part of CAFOD’s Live Simply campaign. The children managed to source an incredible 262 books for our school library! After a busy afternoon of shopping and carrying bags full of stories, they enjoyed a well-deserved drink to celebrate their hard work. A huge thank you to our wonderful PTFA for funding this meaningful project.

While out and about, the children met a member of staff from Cancer Research UK who was amazed by their kindness, enthusiasm and dedication to our Catholic Life Pledge – a lovely moment that made the day even more special! πŸ“š #year6stm #catholiclifestm #readingstm #readingforpleasurestm #ptfastm #CAFOD

🌟 Playground Fun with Years 5 & 6! 🌟

Years 5 and 6 have been learning all about playing together and enjoying classic playground games – including Duck, Duck, Goose, Basketball with Mr Wyse, What Time Is It Mr Wolf?, Big Fat Pony, and Stuck in the Mud! πŸ€πŸΊπŸ¦†

They also joined Maria and Milly for a fun-filled dance workout that got everyone moving and smiling.

It was fantastic to get out in the fresh air, learn to play kindly and enjoy some great teamwork and laughter together!

This year we are proud to introduce St Mary’s newly expanded Leadership Team!

At St Mary’s, we are passionate about Oracy so we asked all applicants to submit a video explaining why they would be the right choice for the role. The standard of applications was outstanding and we were truly impressed by the effort and enthusiasm shown by every child.

After the application stage, shortlisted candidates were interviewed by Mrs Mellor, who was blown away by the confidence and passion they showed. We are delighted to reveal our new Leadership Team:

Deputy Head Boys and Girls

🎭✨ This morning, St Mary’s marked National Poetry Day with a fantastic whole-school assembly! Each year group took to the stage to perform a poem they had been during their drama slots and every single child delivered their piece with confidence and flair. Their hard work and brilliant oracy skills shone through!

The poems performed were:
❀️🧺 Year 1 – Little Red Riding Hood
πŸ¦‰πŸ± Year 2 – The Owl and the Pussycat
🌿🐞 Year 3 – Nature Trail
πŸ‰βœ¨ Year 4 – The Tale of Custard the Dragon
πŸŽ‰πŸ—£οΈ Year 5 – The Word Party

During Year 6’s field trip to Lyme Valley 🌿, the children captured photographs of the fascinating wildlife πŸ¦πŸ¦‹ they encountered, as well as the tributary that feeds into our nearest river – the River Trent. Once they had collected their shots, they created their own Pic Collages πŸŽ¨πŸ–ΌοΈ, ready to analyse in next week’s geography lesson 🧐. 🌿🌊 Year 6 Geography Field Trip! 🌊🌿

Our Year 6 class had a fantastic time exploring Lyme Valley Park as part of their Geography unit this week!

During the visit, the children studied the Lyme Brook, learning how it acts as a main tributary feeding into the River Trent. They also explored the surrounding environment – discovering the different types of wildlife that call the area home 🐦 and identifying a variety of trees that line the brook πŸŒ³πŸ‚. Our final activity was to survey the public's view of the park and how they use it.

It was a brilliant hands-on learning experience that really brought their classroom work to life!
