Year 5 scientists put their investigative skills to the test today as they explored different ways of separating materials!
Working in teams, the children investigated the most efficient methods for separating rice and water, sand and water, marbles and water, and salt and water. Using sieves, colanders, funnels and filter paper, they tested their ideas, observed the results and discussed which methods worked best and why.
We also discussed how salt and water couldn’t be separated using either of these three methods and what we would need to do in order to separate the salt from the water.
A fantastic hands-on science lesson full of teamwork, problem-solving and scientific thinking! 🌟🔬
