Dotty the Reading Dog
Some of our Year 1 children had a lovely afternoon meeting Karen and Dotty the reading dog. They were so happy reading to Dotty and talking about their books.
Roald Dahl Day
To celebrate Roald Dahl day this year, each class conducted a scientific investigation based on a Roald Dahl book. The children had lots of fun making lava lamps, fizzy colours and using their footprints to measure their height! Who says learning isn’t fun?
Reading on BBC Radio Stoke!
Some of our Year 6 children have represented St Mary’s Catholic Primary School on BBC Radio Stoke’s book club! The children selected one of their favourite books to read an extract from with some clues to help the audience. I wonder if you can guess which book they chose…? In our Celebration of God’s Gifts assembly, we were delighted to celebrate some wonderful achievements. Leon was recognised for an incredible 3,000,000 words read on Accelerated Reader – a fantastic milestone and a real testament to his love of reading.
We also celebrated Isabel, Jewelmary and Raiha, who were awarded an amazing Young Writers certificate for their published work.

📚LKS2 – World Book Day 2026📚
Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic time celebrating world book day! We begun our day with a fantastic assembly listening to our teachers read some of the FREE books we can get with our tokens! We also enjoyed exploring the rich vocabulary we had all dressed as and their meanings. We even invented our own silly stories created with these words. Of course, we had the opportunity to talk about our favourite books and make lots of reccomendations!

Happy World Book Day from Year 1. We have had the most amazing day dressing up as words. We started our day with an assembly, celebrating our love of books and reading.
We shared our favourite books, took part in a book quiz and word wizard workshop as well as freeze framing our words . We designed book marks and book tokens and had so much fun creating silly sentences using words from our class word bank. I think you would agree their handwriting is fabulous too!

📚✨ Happy World Book Day! ✨📚
Today we had a very special assembly where lots of our teachers shared extracts from their top picks from the World Book Day free book selection! The children absolutely loved listening to the teachers bring the stories to life and were completely captivated by their performances. 📖🎭
There was a real buzz of excitement as everyone discovered new books, and the children can’t wait to spend their World Book Day vouchers tonight and choose their own! 🎟️📚
Afterwards, we celebrated our theme of words and vocabulary by awarding certificates for the most creative costume and the most adventurous word. The effort and imagination on display were fantastic. 🌟🧠
What a brilliant way to start World Book Day. We can’t wait to see what reading adventures everyone gets up to next! 📚💫
