Dotty the Reading Dog
Some of our Year 1 children had a lovely afternoon meeting Karen and Dotty the reading dog. They were so happy reading to Dotty and talking about their books.
Roald Dahl Day
To celebrate Roald Dahl day this year, each class conducted a scientific investigation based on a Roald Dahl book. The children had lots of fun making lava lamps, fizzy colours and using their footprints to measure their height! Who says learning isn’t fun?
Reading on BBC Radio Stoke!

Some of our Year 6 children have represented St Mary’s Catholic Primary School on BBC Radio Stoke’s book club! The children selected one of their favourite books to read an extract from with some clues to help the audience. I wonder if you can guess which book they chose…? The children also spoke about our wonderful new library! Below is the link for you to listen to – skip to one hour and 39 minutes into the programme and the second part at 1 hour 48 minutes.

What a wonderful World Book Day! Year 1 have had a fantastic day which began with a very exciting and mysterious assembly. We heard extracts from the books that can be exchanged for the World Book Day tokens and we were spoilt for choice. We were then given a mystery book with clues for us to guess what the book could be. From the clues, we created book covers and had a grand reveal to see if we were correct. In the afternoon, we got comfy with our tasty treats and enjoyed a true literary classic, The Jungle Book. As a fantastic end to our day, we held a book sale with all of the donated books and we were overwhelmed by the donations. A huge thank you to our PTFA for our tasty treats. After such a busy day, we were glad to be in our pajamas!

📚As part of our World Book Day celebrations, Year 6 ran a fantastic charity book stall, with all the books kindly donated by our families. We had an amazing selection and are so proud to have raised £187.15 for Dougie Mac! Thank you to everyone who supported us.📚

Year 4 have had a great time celebrating World Book Day. The day started with a mystery book. The children had to listen to the clues to figure out what the book was. They then took part in readers theatre – reading an extract from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We even had visitors in the classroom! The finale to the day was watching the film and eating popcorn! #year4stm #englishstm #readingstm #worldbookdaystm … See MoreSee Less

Year 2 have had a great day today celebrating world book day! We have designed our own book covers based on the clues of our mystery book. We then had a dramatic reveal of our book being ‘The Borrowers’! Then, we read 2 chapters of the story and read a section with our best expressions. In the afternoon, we have enjoyed chocolate milkshake and popcorn whilst watching The Borrowers film. #year2stm #worldbookdaystm #englishstm #readingstm … See MoreSee Less

Looks like they’ve had a wonderful day! 😃
✨ Happy World Book Day! ✨
Year 6 have had so much fun predicting our book and designing our own covers – nearly everyone guessed correctly that it was Matilda!
We even performed A Little Bit Naughty, Readers’ Theatre style, showing off our acting 🎭.
To finish off the day, we got cosy for a slumber party with popcorn, chocolate milk, and a screening of the original Matilda film. Such a magical day celebrating stories we love!
📚✨❤️
