📚Word Millionaires📚
A huge congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, Scarlett, Richa, Julia, Isabelle, Pippa and Janiya, who have achieved an incredible 1,000,000 words on Accelerated Reader.

A special well done to Trish, who has reached an outstanding 2,000,000 words. This is a fantastic achievement and shows real commitment to reading.

Reading regularly builds vocabulary, strengthens understanding and supports mental wellbeing, as well as being a wonderful way to relax and enjoy learning.

📚Word Millionaire

After Year 6’s inspiring visit to Staffordshire Libraries, where Terry read Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch to us🎄, our imaginations were sparked! We carried that excitement straight into our writing lesson, creating poems inspired by the story and the way it was read.✏️

Later in the week, we brought The Grinch to life in Readers’ Theatre, performing a scene from the story🎭. We focused on using expression and matching our tone to each character and the performances were fantastic! 👏

A huge thank you to Terry and Newcastle Library for sparking our creativity! Take a look at some of our amazing poems below – we are so proud of the innovation and effort everyone showed! ✨

🎁The Present🎁

Last week, each class was inspired by the arrival of a mysterious present delivered to their classroom. The children explored the temptation of opening their gifts early, where they might find it and imagined who they might bump into along the way as they tried to resist.

Today, in assembly, one author from each class shared their published piece. From unexpected encounters to moments of suspense, the stories were packed with tension, humour and brilliant imagination.

We were completely captivated by the children’s writing and storytelling and listened in anticipation to every word. A huge congratulations to our budding authors. We are incredibly proud of you.

Take a look at their fantastic stories below!

Dotty the Reading Dog

Some of our Year 1 children had a lovely afternoon meeting Karen and Dotty the reading dog. They were so happy reading to Dotty and talking about their books.

Roald Dahl Day

To celebrate Roald Dahl day this year, each class conducted a scientific investigation based on a Roald Dahl book. The children had lots of fun making lava lamps, fizzy colours and using their footprints to measure their height! Who says learning isn’t fun?

Reading on BBC Radio Stoke!

Some of our Year 6 children have represented St Mary’s Catholic Primary School on BBC Radio Stoke’s book club! The children selected one of their favourite books to read an extract from with some clues to help the audience. I wonder if you can guess which book they chose…? The children also spoke about our wonderful new library! Below is the link for you to listen to – skip to one hour and 39 minutes into the programme and the second part at 1 hour 48 minutes.
